Rev. Roger Wilmer, Jr
Pastor
(410) 202-8655 (Church Office)
Reverend Roger W. Wilmer Jr. was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Roger W. and Jacqueline W. Wilmer. After graduating from the Philadelphia public school system, he earned a degree in Surgical Technology from the Institute for the Advancement of the Medical Sciences in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. He built a distinguished career in organ donation and transplantation as a Transplant Coordinator, a field he once considered his greatest passion. Yet, his faith remained central, and he ultimately answered God’s call to ministry.
Raised in the church under the pastorship of his grandfather, the late Reverend Dr. T.R. Washington, Reverend Wilmer accepted Christ at an early age. He was spiritually mentored by Reverend Luke J. Robinson at Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church in Frederick, Maryland, where he embraced his calling. He was ordained an Itinerant Deacon in 2003 and an Itinerant Elder in 2005 after earning his Master of Divinity from Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg. He has since pastored congregations at Saint Peter’s A.M.E. in Shippensburg, Bethel A.M.E. in Mercersburg, and St. James A.M.E. in Chambersburg, serving alongside his wife, Reverend Cheryl Wilmer. Additionally, his chaplaincy work has strengthened his ability to minister to those facing life’s most difficult moments.
Reverend Wilmer and his wife have shared 38 years of marriage and are blessed with two daughters, Jacqueline and Lauren, a son-in-law, Evan Atkinson, and three cherished grandchildren: Jordan, Jupiter, and Kinsley.
He stands firmly on the words of Matthew 28:19-20:”Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
